What are GloFish® Fluorescent Fish?
GloFish® fluorescent fish are freshwater fish that glow in bright colors. They get their glowing colors from special proteins they inherit from their parents, which come from marine organisms. GloFish fluorescent fish are not dyed or altered in any way; their glow is inherited. They need the same care as other fish and are great for homes, offices, and classrooms. They are perfect for both beginners and experienced fish keepers.
What colors and species are available?
- Species: Angelfish*, Barb, Corydora*, Danio, Shark, Skirt Tetra, Long-Fin Skirt Tetra, Pristella Tetra* (* = not pictured)
- Colors: Starfire Red®, Sunburst Orange®, Electric Green®, Cosmic Blue®, Moonrise Pink® and Galactic Purple®.
How many fish can I have in my aquarium?
Use this guide to determine how many fish you can have.

Calculate Stocking Capacity:
- The general rule is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water.
- For a 29-gallon tank: 29 gallons x 1 inch = 29 inches of fish total.

Choose Your Species:
- Most GloFish® fluorescent fish are community fish and should be kept in groups of five or more. This includes GloFish® Danios, Skirt Tetras, Long-Fin Skirt Tetras, Pristella Tetras, and Barbs.
- Stocking Rates:
- Danios: 2 fish per gallon.
- Tetras and Barbs: 1 fish per gallon
- Exceptions: GloFish® Sharks and GloFish® Angelfish require a minimum tank size of 29 gallons and grow to 4-6 inches.

Calculate Your Stocking Plan:
- Example for a 29-gallon tank:
- Danios: 10 fish @ 2 per gallon = 5 gallons used. (29 - 5 = 24 gallons left)
- Tetras: 10 fish @ 1 per gallon = 10 gallons used. (24 - 10 = 14 gallons left)
- Corydoras: 8 fish @ 1 per gallon = 8 gallons used. (14 - 8 = 6 gallons left)
- Angelfish: 1 fish @ 6 inches = 6 gallons used. (6 - 6 = 0 gallons left)

What do GloFish fluorescent fish eat?
GloFish® foods contain specialized amino acids that make GloFish® fluorescent fish even brighter.
- Use GloFish® Special Flake Food for danios, barbs, tetras, angelfish, and other freshwater companions.
- Use GloFish® Wafers for bottom feeders like the sharks and corydoras.
What is the best lighting for GloFish fluorescent fish? How long do I leave it on?
To make you're GloFish fluorescent fish stand out add blue lights. The more the better! Check out some options here. Leave lighting on for no more than 12 hours a day.
